books, netbooks and everything else

Guess mine is not the first heart broken,
My eyes are not the first to cry,
I’m not the first to know there’s
Just no getting over you

Adultery is more than a word: it’s a desire… a desire to read my book, that is. I have people waiting in line to read it. I hate to disappoint my fellow classmates but I have just finished chapter 2. I like how the author describes a love triangle based on three points of view. This book is “one of a kind”, a term I quoted from Susan Mayer in the latest series of Desperate Housewives.

However, my main post for today is the oh-so-popular netbooks that is rising in popularity due to its small size and cheap price tag.

NETBOOKS: A WANT OR A NEED?

What is a netbook, you may ask? A netbook is a portable notebook designed for the internet. A netbook usually comes with a 10″ screen or less, weighs around ±1 kg, 1GB ram, Intel Atom processor, built-in wireless and cost around S$800 (keyword: usually). I have been thinking of getting one of these when I manage to save some money. Imagine the possibilities: pick, throw, use. Pick up the netbook like its a textbook, throw it into your bag and use it on the go. However, the down side is they run either Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux (or even Windows Vista if you are thinking about the Sony Vaio P series).

I hope Apple will release a netbook with full Mac OS X capabilities and a suitable price tag but I’m sure it will be expensive. It’s Apple, anyway.

adultery, studying and everything else

I gave you love as a present, you gave me farewell.
Were you this kind of person? How could you be so cruel?

It started on tuesday. When someone or something starts the party, the rest joins in the bandwagon. It started with the sore throat, followed by your infamous flu and then the fever begins… literally. I went to see the doctor at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on Saturday as I had just finished my tuition. After the consultation and the prescription was given, I began walking around before heading home. I visited the Times Newslink bookstore and to my surprise, I saw my book.

ADULTERY

“Divorce is a difficult business. Never more so, may I suggest, than when your client authoritatively declares all men are bastards, and you’re left shifting uncomfortably in your seat.”

– extracted from “The Adultery Club” by Tess Stimson

The first paragraph of the book had already have me making funny noises and shifting uncomfortably in my seat. I instantly read the first chapter before I went to sleep that night. However, I must say that this book consists a lot of English words or phrases with deep meaning. A few example…

- Remunerative

- ménage à trois

- serendipity

I mean, what the fuck?! I had to search the dictionary to find out the meaning. Instead of saying, “ménage à trois”, why not simply put it as, “a guy have sex with two ladies”. Nevertheless, I’ve glanced through the book and I stopped at a particular sex scene. I can’t wait to finish this book. Oooh.

STUDYING

With hard work comes great food… and cake.” – Low Weiqi

After school, I went to 163 for lunch and proceeded to plaza to purchase Eugene his birthday present. I left halfway as Kenneth, Leong Lek, Eugene, Yu Ting and Jun YO! were waiting for me in the library to study. Barely 1 hour I’ve reached the school library, we had to move to the concourse because the library was closing. We asked Mrs. Yap to help us with our mathematics homework.

Then, all of a sudden, Mrs. Goh S.C. appeared out of nowhere with a big slice of cake. “Cake for you hardworking boys.” she said. And so, Mrs. Yap went to take the forks and napkins and we had a little feast. Like the great Low Weiqi said and have always say,

“With hard work comes great food… and cake.”

We went home around 7. I really want to get a distinction for mathematics so I don’t have to take it in Secondary 5. I am working hard. I really am.

Let’s have some fun, this beat is sick
I wanna take a ride on your disco stick

The first 3 months of 2009 have passed so quickly that for me to notice that the GCEs are just around the corner is perhaps a blessing. I have had a senior who told me this, and I quote,

April is still early. The serious studying starts in June.

Yes, you can imagine my face when he said that. He was the type of earthling that do not require much studying. I stood there with my mouth open. He continued,

You and I, we are all human. If I can start in June, so can you.

However, I beg to differ. I am your typical earthling that receive luck through hard work. I am glad I have started.

GAGA FEVER

I had a friend that introduced Lady GaGa to me. I mean, I’ve heard of her when she released the song last year, but I just wasn’t into it. I’ve heard Poker Face and Just Dance twice in 2008. In 2008, she was so low on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that I’ve lost track of her songs. However, in 2009, she came back. Just Dance was first in the charts; I was unaware of that. Since my friend re-introduced me to Lady GaGa, I thought I’ll listen to it again. My preferences might have changed from last year; I don’t know. Like they say, third time’s the charm.

And boy, am I glad I listened to it again. My favorite would be Poker Face. There is something about the song that makes you want to dance.

LUSTING AFTER KINDLE 2

Ever since Amazon released it’s second generation e-book, Amazon Kindle 2, I’ve been lusting over it. Don’t you just want to carry 1500 book titles in one device? Hell, I’d sell my iPhone for this! (No, I’m just kidding. But this shows how much I want this.) Unfortunately, it’s not available for sale in Singapore. Importing it would be darn expensive. I guess I’ll stick to the traditional method of reading.

For now, I am searching for The Adultery Club by Tess Stimson. No, it’s not a girl’s book. It’s about adultery, a subject that I’m very interested in, probably because I’ve watched too much Desperate Housewives. I need to make a trip down to Borders! Maybe I should ask Izzat to accompany me to Borders since that is his second home.
